I knew if I went to the great library gurus you guys would come through and
you did.
Thanks to all of you who responded to giving me feedback on switching from
Athena to another library management system. This firsthand experience is
what will really help us in deciding.
Some of you asked for me to share my hits. Here goes:
Destiny training and tech support are great, add-ons are easy to do and no
problems with the transition. Lots of extras. The records converted well.
Lots of great assistance with the transfer over and data stayed intact and
you can use Athena for circulation while transfers are happening to the new
system. Updates automatically and there is a back up circulation component
for times when the internet is down or local servers are down.
There were people who had good things to say about Alexandria including
that the price is lower than some of the others and functions well.
Atrium has great reports good support, has real people here to assist with
problems and questions and is very responsive to customer input .
The main thing I learned from everyone was to get busy NOW weeding what I
don't want to bother transferring, tweaking my records, getting those ISBN #
on the record (especially on the older stuff) and standardizing as best I
can so it will go better.
Make sure we have a server that will handle the new system( our great tech
team will cover that for us)
Make sure we tell the new company how we want the options set for our
district (who will have what privileges )
And what bells and whistles do we want now or what can we add easily later.
Will it be compatible with our existing hardware such as assistive
technology and other software.
Thanks So much to you all

Subject: [LM_NET] Target: Athena software to a new program

Good afternoon,
If anyone has switched from Athena to either Destiny, Atrium or Alexandria
or any other major company and
has any advice to share, tips, warnings etc. please reply. Any real life
experiences will help us make a better choice.
We will be buying a new library management software system for our district
and may also want a textbook option.
We have had presentations from Destiny and Atrium. We are also looking to
maybe see two more before we decide.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or things to be aware of.
