Jan,
I do this just a few at a time when I order new titles. This way I feel I am
trying to do both. When I can I shop bargain bins to see if any of the tried
and true favorites are available. I just had a parent donate several Dr
Seuss hardcover titles ( not library bound but great condition) so that was
a wonderful surprise. I can take some of those off of my order list and pick
new titles. These copies will last as long as library bound copies but they
will make it through a couple of years at least. I hate to weed though I
feel I am getting rid of my best and oldest friends. :)

Hi

It's time for me to weed and do inventory and I'm always in a dilemma about
what to pitch and what to keep and what to replace. Is there a resource that
lists "classics" that elementary libraries should always have?  Should I
replace my tired-looking copies of the Beverly Cleary books (for example) or
keep them and use my limited budget on newer titles?  I think books
circulate better if they have a fresh cover, but I have a limited budget and
might should purchase books by newer authors.

How about Arthur (Marc Brown) books? Curious George?  They're well read.
How do you handle replacing copies?
