Next week will be my last week with my fifth grade classes, although
we'll still have almost 3 weeks of school left. It will also be their
last weekly library visit of their elementary school careers; I've seen
them weekly since kindergarten, and now they're moving on to our middle
school, where I'll see them only when their teachers request library
time for them. I am trying to think of a good activity to wrap up not
only the year but their entire K-5 experience, while looking on toward
middle school at the same time.
Behaviorally, this class has had a difficult time with unstructured and
physically active activities over the past few weeks. A scavenger hunt
would be a great year-end activity for a class that could handle it;
however, it's much more likely I'll be able to send this group out of my
classroom for the last time on a positive note if they spend that last
session sitting quietly at tables. I'd appreciate any ideas you would
be willing to share!
