Hi, this is Tanya Misselt. I would like to "Target-> Serving Satellite 4K Programs". I'd like to find out how other elementary school librarians on LM_NET are serving satellite preschools. If people will respond to me, I'll compile your responses and post a "HIT->" on the topic back to the entire LM_NET. At the beginning of this school year, our district started several satellite 4K classrooms that are located at several different sites in the community (not in our K-12 public school buildings). Our elementary libraries have been asked to begin serving these satellite 4K classrooms. Currently, we are considering building a collection for 4K teachers that will meet their specific curriculum needs. We want to put this new library material in one area so that 4K teachers can come to our library and easily browse for the material that they need. It's a self serve approach. I'm considering calling it an "Early Childhood Collection". However, it would be accessible to all students and teachers. I have a two part question for the group: 1) In what capacity are other elementary libraries serving satellite 4K programs? 2) Are any of those libraries starting separate collections for these programs and if so how are you doing this? (In Wisconsin, we have "Common School Fund" laws that will not allow us to build restricted collections.) Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
