I have a student doing a research paper on scary stories. One of the
questions he has to answer is "Why are scary stories so intense?" I
suggested that he research the physical effects of fear - how a story
could actually frighten you, but we don't have any information on that
topic. I found a website that applies for scary movies, but not directly
for books.

He also asked me what was the first scary story ever written, and I had no
clue. Anybody know?
