Good morning all:
OK--Thanks for all who responded to my question
about dust covers for books. I really don't need any more
responses unless you are truly passionate about this
issue. I have enough to go on for myself at the moment.
        The results ended up being:
             Yes--we still cover (10)
             No--We don't (19)

Many of the people who covered said that they had their
company (Follett, BTSB) do it for them before it arrived.
Others said that it was a mindless thing that they could
do at the end of the day and that it really did protect
the books in the long run.

The ones who did not cover said that it was just too time
consuming and that they didn't think it was necessary for
the picture books that already had a pretty picture on
them. I also had at least 2 people who said that they cut
out the summary from the book cover and put it inside the
inside cover of the book but threw the rest of the
bookjacket into a drawer to be used for bulletin boards or
other projects.

For myself, I have decided not to cover the books anymore.
We are quite a small school and even though I constantly
have kids reading the books, they just don't get worn out
as much as a school that has 1000 students or something.
The other problem is, of course, the time issue. I have
several books that have been sitting behind my desk for a
month waiting for me to have time to cover the jackets,
now they are out and on the shelves ready for the kids to
check out instead and to me that is just as important.

Personal preferences all and I can easily see both sides
of the issue. Thanks for all who helped and I will try to
get some personal replies off this weekend.
