This morning's This Is True (www.thisistrue.com) reported that an 11th-grade student in Pelham Manor, N.Y., got in trouble at school and with the police because he was supposedly researching how to conceal a gun. It turns out he was actually researching the state's gun laws. The student didn't get into trouble, but the troubling aspect of the whole incident was that the student was reported to the school by the Pelham Public Library. The library director said while it wasn't the library's procedure to investigate patron reading habits, she felt that she should notify someone so she called the school. According to This Is True, the incident was reported in the White Plains Journal News. If you go to the website to read Cassingham's commentary, note that this is a site that makes fun of real news items. The last comment in the article is satire, not reality.
