I assume you teach lessons as I do. Ask him if he would allow his classroom
teachers to be interrupted all day long during teaching time. I am
responsible for many state standardized test topics along with ELA teachers
including Using Information Resources and Reading Comprehension and writing,
map and reference skills. I take my lessons seriously as does my district
with accountability and areas of teaching that I am evaluated on. I cannot
stay focus with constant doors opening and closing, questions and stop to
check them out. Unless you have a very large space and the teaching and
classes are happening in another part of the library and you have a helper
that can stop every few minutes to assist someone coming in ( and they will
need help) This is an awful disruption of scheduled time. Other tasks like
cataloging don't need to be constantly interrupted either. I know someone
who did it and she had a person at a station all day just for that and they
limited the number from each class to 2 at a time but it seemed her students
heads were always turned to see who was coming in and their attention was
not on her or her lesson. I vote no. Good Luck

Subject: [LM_NET] ELEM: Open library

I've just been told that next year our principal wants to have library
open to everyone all day, but still wants to have scheduled classes. I
have one 5.5 hour a day clerk who does everything: stories, circulation,
AR prizes, raffle tickets for our AR raffle, shelving, etc. I don't really
think this is doable. We already have multiple times per week that anyone
can come when we don't have a class. I just think that scheduled classes
deserve their uninterrupted time. What do you think?
