All this discuss of Shel Silverstein reminds me of when my daughters were little and not feeling well, they would beg me to read his poetry, which always made them laugh and feel better. My sister, who lives in suburbs of Washington D.C., told me that his books were banned in her daughter's school because (get this) he used to write for Playboy Magazine. That left me shaking my head and gritting my librarian teeth.
