Of course it's unreasonable to ban all of Shel Silverstein's books, but I'd like to caution everyone not to make the mistake I made -- I ordered Different Dances and it wasn't until the book had arrived -- processed -- that I realized the book was not appropriate for a school library. I gave the book to one of the art teachers who did appreciate it. My sister, who lives in suburbs of Washington D.C., told me that his books were banned in her daughter's school because (get this) he used to write for Playboy Magazine. That left me shaking my head and gritting my librarian teeth.
