I would say that library media centers in general need to become not
only the information centers (which in 2009 is much, much easier than
1989) but also the communication centers of the school. It is more
important than ever for parents, often, over worked and underpaid, be
kept informed of what is going on inside the school. There is no other
facility that can efficiently deliver this other than a good, high tech,
full service library media center. So, I would say that I some cases
even, the library media center needs to be in charge of the web site and
everything that goes along with it. Many of us, I think, think too
narrowly as to the function of the library media center - and that will
only have disastrous consequences.
