I am woefully ignorant. Please help me out.

I have been contemplating purchasing either a kindle or a netbook for
myself. I have finally opted for a netbook - mainly because I really
don't buy books. I borrow them from the public library. I am eagerly
awaiting the arrival of my netbook. Anyway - here is where my ignorance
comes in.....

As the book world tranistions to ebooks - where are libraries in this?
Will we be able to loan eBook readers such as the Kindle? Will we be
able to purchase ebooks for patrons to download to their own readers or
to a library owned kindle. I just have not got into that whole area of
technology. I need education.

I would appreciate your thoughts and I would also love some recommended
articles to read that would bring me up to speed on the issue. I feel
like I am REALLY behind.

people sit in silence, and that's been the main reason for our policy of
employing wild animals as librarians...." (Monty Python)
