Hi Everyone-- You probably know I've been working on the James Patterson website for parents, teachers, librarians, and kids, www.ReadKiddoRead.com, for the past year, writing reviews and searching for books kids can't put down. It's been an amazing experience, and I've been having a ball. They just put up the new Margie Palatini interview--you'll be interested to hear how she got her first picture book, Piggie Pie, published after it sat in a box in her attic for years. Margie is a hoot! I just submitted my review of her newest book, Lousy Rotten Stinkin' Grapes, a Margie-style, laugh-out-loud, perfect for Reader's Theater, retelling of Aesop's "The Fox and the Grapes." (It won't go up for a few weeks, though, probably) If you're going to AASL in Charlotte this week, you'll be interested to see that James will be speaking there in the Ballroom on Friday morning at 8 a.m. (Turbocharge Your Day with James Patterson!: Read Kiddo Read! Parents and Librarians Band Together to Make Kids Lifelong Readers), talking about his writing for kids (Maximum Ride, Daniel X, and the forthcoming Witch & Wizard series) and about the site. (It won THREE, count 'em, 3 awards in the past year!!!) Sadly for me, I won't be able to come--I'm up in Albany right now, ready to barnstorm through the New England area for my first week of children's literature seminars for BER, starting, gulp, tomorrow morning. AASL is a fabulous conference, and if you're going, I'm pretty darn envious. (Though I do love being in Albany, where my husband's family lives.) According to Victoria Stapleton, manager of School and Library Marketing at Little, Brown, James is excited about presenting at AASL because he "knows that school library media specialists are on the front lines in the effort to get kids reading. He believes that these professionals know how to pair a student with a good book to make a great reading experience and a lifelong reader." Got that right! I was reading Diane Chen's wonderful blog (go to www.schoollibraryjournal.com and pull down BLOGS --what a treasure box you'll find there!) and she mentioned that James will be giving out advance reading copies of his forthcoming book, Witch & Wizard (a brand new series I think is going to be very popular with kids) at his session. Anyway, if you happen to get up close, say hi to him from me. If you see him before his speech, tell him I said to break a binding! Have a fabulous time.
