Dear Netters,
Both of my elementary schools enjoyed an author visit from Phil Bildner.
He is well known in Texas for winning the Texas Bluebonnet Award in 2004 for
Shoeless Joe and Black Betsy, and his career has really taken off since. He and
Loren Long have a chapter book series called Sluggers, and several more books are
coming out this year.

amazing, and the kids enjoyed exploring it and reading his books before his visit.
After his visit, his books have been constantly checked out. Our teachers loved
hearing him advise the kids to write and rewrite, and to write what you know and
love.
Phil's a former teacher in NYC, and he totally captivated his audience
of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders with his stories about writing. He was on his way to
do some writing camps in other parts of Texas and my principal was so impressed
with him she asked for more information about his writing camps.
If you are looking for a wonderful author to visit and fire up your
students about writing, consider Phil Bildner.
