Shonda,
Thank you for your post! You identified many important concerns! I could not
attend AASL and am participating (at my own expense and time) in the AASL b There
Virtual Track Program so that I don't have to miss out on the many interesting
sessions I would have loved to attend! And, sadly, I couldn't muster enough
interest within my large district to reduce the cost because out of pocket is never
easy on a teacher's salary and, truthfully, a bit demoralizing if the reason is one
other than budgetary. And while it will pale in comparison to actually attending
the conference, I am thrilled I can participate and learn in some way! For those
of us who love technology, love what we do, but do not have the opportunities for
this kind of professional development, I say thank you AASL!

"Too many librarians want to participate but aren't allowed. Instead, they shut
up, keep their heads down, and continue to do their best. I do think it's time for
us to provide a virtual hand-up for some of our colleagues and share, interact, and
become connected through 2.0 tools during our real-time sessions in order for us to
really make an impact. It's not about us, it's about them." Touché, Thank you,
Shonda! Lisa Nocita
