These are the best chocolate/brownie cookies ever ---- and even though they are
called Macaroons there isn't any coconut!

Chocolate Macaroons or Brownie Cookies

½ cup of vegetable shortening or Crisco 2 cups of flour
4 squares of unsweetened chocolate 2 tsp. of baking powder
½ tsp. salt 2 cups of sugar
4 eggs slightly beaten 2 tsp. vanilla extract
Confectioner's or powdered sugar

Melt together the chocolate squares and the shortening. Remove from heat and add
the sugar, mix well. Add the eggs one at a time mixing well after each. Add the
vanilla and mix it in. In a separate bowl combine the flour, salt, and baking
powder. Slowly combine the two mixtures and stir it until well mixed. Chill the
cookie dough for at least 2 to 3 hours, until very firm.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Scoop out the cookie dough in rounded teaspoons and
roll into balls, roll each ball in powdered sugar and place on greased cookie
sheet. Bake for about 10 minutes, the cookie should still be slightly soft in the
center when you take them out. Let them cool on the cookie sheet for 2 to 3 minutes
then remove to a wire rack to finish cooling.
