[LM_NET] Advice for new librarians and library students

I've had a blog for a few years now.  I basically post whenever the
"library" spirit moves me on whatever issue is foremost in my mind.

Over the past few years I've mentored a number of new and aspiring
librarians.  It's been a great opportunity to work with many talented
individuals entering this profession that I love.  

I've also struggled "out loud" on my blog with the idea of retiring some
day from a job I love.  Wondering what to do when I grow up.......

I think my next mission might be mentoring.

One of my favorite "mentorees" started her first job this Fall and had
many questions.  As I typed detailed email answers to her, it occurred
to me that if I posted these responses on my blog, I could share them
easily with my library interns of the future.  So - I added a
"mentoring" category to the blog.

To my surprise, a few other folks have discovered it and seem to find it
useful.  So..... If you think you might have any interest, just come to

the "mentoring" link on the right side navigation panel, you will find
my ramblings.  Right now, the posts are only about book ordering.   I
hope to add some posts soon about student management.  I am open to
other ideas.  There seems to be a need for practical, "how do I get it
done?" kind of information/advice.

I truly hope that folks will join in the conversation, so it won't be
such a monologue.  New librarians with questions and comments of
course.....  Also experienced librarians who would like to add their
thoughts on the practical side of librarianship, as well as the
theoretical and visionary aspects.
