I have only gotten a few responses to my questions (listed below), and no one has responded to the first question along the lines I intended.? One response was a bit miffed that I would ask people to check school reading lists against award lists. That was not my intent at all.? I thought (perhaps wrongly) that people would be able to name off 3-5 recent winners or best of the year list titles that were being used in classes. Sooooo, let me try again.? While I'm still looking for any titles anyone wishes to send; let me reword the first question to this: If you had the opportunity to talk to a group of future junior high or high school English teachers---what would you say or do to get them interested/enthused/maybe even 'excited' about reading young adult literature?? (I have about 30 minutes--so this can't be too involved) I'm open to any and all ideas. Thanks? again, Donna Donna Nix Plymouth, MN dgillila@aol.com ? Greetings, I'm thinking ahead to a session I'll have in a few weeks with our Young Adult Literature class (teacher education students).? In this session, I've been booktalking recent YA titles that I love (that's what I?am asked to do)?and?in most cases, believe they have potential curriculum use.? But the students mostly look bored, and when the instructor shares the list of books they chose to read after the assignment, it is mostly classic or older titles.? I think I have 2 questions: 1) any ideas of how to get them excited about new/recent books? (I share the BBYA and Quick Picks lists, which generates some interest) 2) What recent books from the following awards or lists are being used in the curriculum of your junior or senior high school?? (approx. last 5 years) ?????? Newbery award and honors ?????? Printz award and honors ?????? Best Books for Young Adults ?????? Coretta Scott King award and honors (older reading levels) ?????? Alex awards Thanks for your input. Donna Donna Nix Plymouth, MN dgillila@aol.com ?
