Hi all! I'm getting ready to teach my 3rd graders how to find non-fiction books on the shelf. In the past, I've always covered the Dewey Decimal system with them (how numbers are determined, how the books are organized by subject, etc.) but I've never gone into detail about number order - partly because I'm not a mathematical person myself and am a little nervous about teaching the material to them. Do any of you have any activities or short lesson plans that you have found to be successful? I'm particularly looking to explain number order to them and a number range (i.e. 520 - 550) - how to determine what comes between 520 and 550. So far I've allotted two instructional periods to teach these concepts. Thanks for any ideas you're willing to share! I'll post a hit if there is interest. -- Angie Woodson Media Specialist Van Buren and Central Elementary Plainfield, IN 46168 librarypup@gmail.com -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
