I'm glad Melissa spoke up here. I too really like the site, and spent some time
yesterday exploring the site. I am glad that there are examples of at least one
read aloud/strategy demonstration to give a full idea of the work they are doing.
But posting the reading of all of them, wide open on the internet is a copyright
violation. (It appears that in some of the earlier posts, the illustrations are
not shown, just the principal reading the text. Later posts have sophisticated
digital storytelling techniques- panning across image to give sense of movement,
etc.)

If I were the copyright "coach" in the building, I might suggest the wiki be set to
private. Staff could still have access to the presentation in case of absence, or
to revisit the strategy lesson. Colleagues could be granted permission to view the
wiki, upon request. At least one author, Leslie Helakoski, author of Woolbur, was
present at the session on their book - so getting a response to a copyright
permission request wouldn't be difficult for that title.

If the intent is to model best practice, it should include best practice in
intellectual property as well.

Thanks to Melissa for raising the issue, and to Victoria for sharing a neat find.
I have to admit I hope it remains open for long enough to share the idea with my
own principal!

I agree with Victoria that this is a really nice idea (whole school doing a book a
month together, strategies shared, archived in wiki) but if only they had left out
the part where the principal has a video of her reading each book and showing the
pages. Once a video like that is embedded and shared online, it's a copyright
violation. Many places to look for more info - thanks to Nancy Alibrandi for
pointing out the problem to me and sharing this from Wes Fryer's blog:
