Cheryl- Not a specific suggestion, but if you haven't read Scott McCloud's terrific "Understanding Comics," you should. McCloud creates an excellent understanding of how graphic literature works, and provides a vocabulary lesson that underscores the psychology and function of graphic literature. (And, it's a piece of graphic literature itself.) A main thesis is that graphic novels (comics) exercise and stimulate different parts of our brain and are really a different kind of literacy. He also does a wonderful job of explaining how they work. This book may give you some insight into creating a great lesson for these materials. Harry Harry F. I finally have enough that at least one group can read them and I have a teacher interested in making it an assignment. We are planning to pair it to a discussion of picture books (a true picture book) that require seeing the pictures to comprehend the story but we aren't quite sure where to go with it. Any and all suggestions welcomed!
