The students in the graduate courses I teach at University Wisconsin
-Stout are asked to use APA style in all of their graduate course
papers. Even though many are teachers, most struggle with this. I
recently created a power-point explaining the bare basics of using MS
Word to create their citations, bibliographies, or works cited.

Since my resident granddaughter is asked to use MLA style in her
college work -- while I was at it I created a version for her as
well. It is a little more complicated given the "new" 2009 rules
dictate italicizing rather than underlining titles, using the
elements of a website to provide the citation, and in an interesting
addition, MLA language asks that the citation contain an indicator of
format of cited material, i.e. Web, print. MS Word does not compose
in that format but it is very easy to adjust.

Both powerpoints link users to the very superb site OWL at Purdue.

You may view the powerpoints on the web; or if you wish my page
provides a downloadable power point that you are encouraged to use
with your students -- if it is of any assistance.

Permission is given on the last slide of each presentation for anyone
to download and use:
It may be used for non-profit educational use in classrooms,
libraries, in-service sessions, and conferences, provided the entire
presentation/summary is used, including the title slide and this
credit slide.

Any suggestions for changes -- welcome.
