[LM_NET] TAR=> converting a windows media or .avi file to dvd format

We are trying to start using the Visual Communicator software for our morning 
announcements.  We have hooked up an external dvd burner to our computer to be able 
to show the video on our broadcast system.  The software can save as a windows  or 
avi file, but the DVD player can't read this.  Do any of you know any free software 
that could convert the file to dvd format?
