I am also in a smaller school (JK - 8), with not a lot of turnover from year to year. So my students know (or think they know...) much of what I cover in library orientation. For the past few years I have made up an orientation crossword (using Puzzlemaker.com) for the older students, and have the kids answer the questions on the crossword puzzle. In addition to classic orientation topics like how many books can be signed out and procedural stuff, I include questions like what topic of books are found at particular Dewey numbers, titles of books by particular authors, titles of magazines, etc and tell the kids they have to actually go to the shelves to answer some of the questions. After 10 - 15 minutes, I call everyone back and we go over the answers together. I can then expand on some topics that don't lend themselves as well to puzzle answers, but the kids are willing to listen. It's not a quiet activity, but it is a fun way to get them moving around the library, and it beats having me stand up at the front of the room and blather at them.
