You might be interested in reading about "Earphone English," a collaborative program developed by the Berkeley CA. Public & High School libraries. Here are some links with tips & suggested titles for using audiobooks with English Language Learners: From my old blog: http://audiobooker.blogspot.com/2008/08/international-association-of-school_ 04.html: The group's website http://earphoneclub.ning.com/ More info: http://www.audiobookshelf.com/eom_feb04.html Another article: http://liberty211.pbworks.com/f/Through+the+Headphones+-+Audiobooks0001.pdf Plus, you may want to listen to Francisca Goldsmith's (co-founder of Earphone English) portion of this presentation on my current blog: http://audiobooker.booklistonline.com/2009/07/20/evaluating-audiobooks-on-au dio/ Mary Burkey http://audiobooker.booklistonline.com -----Original Message----- Date: Wed, 2 Sep 2009 10:03:27 -0500 From: G Lehman <lhsblog@GMAIL.COM> Subject: Audio Book Help I have 2 students I'm working with that would really benefit from audio books. They both have book reports to do for their English classes. I don't have much money to spend. One student (a native of Mexico who has only been in the US one year) has to read an award winning book. The other is a lower functioning student so anything too lengthy or complex will be difficult for her to grasp. She chose Green Angel by Alice Hoffman, but of course I can't find that on audio book. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas that could help make this a little easier for me? Thanks!
