Thanks for sharing, Jeanne. I really is an interesting overview of what's
happening in the public library world.

Unfortunately, we school-library folk are only cutting-edge if we are
actually at the edge. Not all of us are able to use information technology
tools in ways which demonstrates our leadership in this area. We all know
how hard it is to keep up as single (or even split-time) library folks. We
need continue to strategize ways of being more efficient by using the tools
available to most of us and for those who can't even access certain online
tools and resources we need to help one another advocate for their use in
schools.

Even given the fact that the article was written mostly about public
libraries, which have a different mission from ours, we need to prepare our
kids to enter that world.

My favorite quote was the one about the goal of the [public] library: To be
a free place where people can access and share information.

And I had to chuckle at the first line of the article. Yesterday, during our
back-to-school-night event, one of the parents walking through the library
proclaimed: "I just love the smell of this library!" I'm not sure what she
meant but I'm sure she wasn't referring to dankness!
