[LM_NET] TAR:GEN:Looking for book title

Dear Netters:

One of my students is trying to track down a book he read many years ago.  All he 
can remember about it is that it centered around some sort of intergalactic space 
game and the quest for a "pigball".  He believes there were different balls that 
did different things, but the ultimate goal was to find the pigball.  Eventually 
the game comes to Earth and some human children get involved.

Anyone out there recognize this theme?  Thanks in advance for your help.
