I received one of these library improvements though a local Target team - they were
wonderful! Lots of free books and they donated some small furniture and read to
our middle schoolers. It was outstanding!

I just found out about these on Facebook.

Target® team members will improve nearly 2,000 K-12 school libraries this year.
It's just one more way that Target supports education in your neighborhood and
nationwide. Check out the video to the right and before-and-after pictures below to
see the impact Target Volunteers are having on our communities

Since 2007, Target Volunteers have improved nearly 2,000 libraries. Most of these
projects involve Target stores and Distribution Centers donating books through a
partnership with First Book, and team members volunteering their time to organize,
clean and brighten libraries. Some libraries with the greatest needs—more than 40
so far—have received a complete School Library
Makeover. These libraries underwent a tremendous transformation—featuring larger
spaces with new carpet, furniture and colors—thanks to the time and talent of
Target design and construction team members, and with the support of non-profit
partner Heart of America.
Target considers several factors in determining which libraries to improve:
Current physical condition of the library
Low-income student need
Enthusiasm and capability of school staff, which includes a paid librarian
Demonstrated ability to maintain the new library and its collection
Availability to local community in terms of circulation and events
Space in which Target designers and construction teams can creatively work
Proximity to Target store(s)
The school’s participation in other Target education programs such as Take Charge
of Education® and Target Field Trip Grants.
