I am going to help our church librarian weed the small church library
collection (maybe 8 tall stacks) which contains some nice books (nice
children's collection) and a lot of very dated materials and
downright junk that was donated over the years. My first thought is
to throw out 75% and then go on from there!
We are planning to list what is left on an excel spreadsheet as the
card catalog is very out of date and cumbersome.
If there are any church librarians out there, I would be interested
to know if there are any recent publications (or websites) which
suggest what a church library should have (what to keep, that is!)
We are both experienced elementary librarians so we know how to weed
(less is more!), but my friend is more of a saver and I am more one
to likes to pitch and seldom has regrets. (Of course, it is easy to
weed when you are not as involved in the particular collection and my
friend has served as a volunteer church librarian for about 25 years
or more!)
