Our public library does this as well. I have to be careful that I don't pick up
the books of a friend of mine with the same last name as me. It does bother me
that we can see what each other is reading but not enough to object. It is very
convenient to find my holds and check them out myself. I can be in and out of the
library within 2 minutes. Makes for a quick stop for a very busy person.

Subject: OT: New policy at my public library

This is off topic because it's about my local public library, but since you=
're all librarians, I wanted your take on it.
Our public library -- probably as a cost cutting measure -- has decided tha=
t when a patron comes to pick up a book that is being held, they can retrie=
ve it themselves from a row of shelves that is in the general part of the l=
ibrary. I went today to pick up I book I was having held for me, and saw th=
at right next to my book was a book being held from someone in my Moms' clu=
b. (we both have names starting with DAV).
While 99% of the time, I don't think anyone really cares who sees what they=
're reading,=A0it occurred to me this is a violation of the Library Bill of=
Rights.=A0
Do the rest of you see it this way? What would you do if you're local libra=
ry decided to use this system?
