I don't see how you can make a professional recommendation for this.  I know
this is not the answer you are looking for and I'm sorry to add to the
fervor but really, what sane recommendation is there to make?  It would be
just as unreasonable to say how can I run an 3rd grade classroom without a
teacher.

I think the best recommendation is to lock the door.  And leave the clean up
for when they are ready to treat it seriously.
