I read an article about the Steig Larson trilogy that said the American
publishers were delaying publication of the 3rd title in order to build
excitement about the series and, therefore, sell more books. It's all
about the money. Of course, I would like to support my local book
sellers, but when the opportunity came along to read the 3rd book NOW, I
took it. One of my teachers ordered it from England and has passed it
all around. And you're right, Linda, I won't put it in my high school
library either. But man, oh, man what a read!

Subject: TARGET

This morning on NPR's Morning Edition (npr.org), there was a story by
reporter Lynn Neery about the third installment of Stieg Larsson's
Millenium series, The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. Apparently, it
has been available in Great Britain since October 1, and many people
have been ordering it from there through Amazon UK. The US publisher
was interviewed about this, and said, it was illegel - a violation of
copyright. He recommended we patronize our local neighborhood bookstore.
My question to all of you out there who are more knowledgeable than I,
is WHY is it a copyright violation? If a traveler brings one back, or a
European friend sends one as a gift, is that a violation? I understand
and agree with the need to support our local bookstores and publisers,
so my question is really an academic one. Am I going to order one for
myself? It sure is tempting. If you are not yet hooked on this series,
I do recommend you read it. Will I order it for high school. No,
probably not.
