Our technology department is looking for alternatives to Kidpix and Type-to-learn. We like Kidpix, but it doesn't work on thin client machines. If you have something that you use that is free or affordable, please pass it along. We use Tuxpaint, and I like it a lot more than Kidpix, because there aren't as many distractions. Its easy to customize the stamps library and defaults. I have mine set up to run from each individual hard drive, but the images save as jpegs to a network drive, so it's easy to dump them into group slide shows, power point, or whatever. It's free! Take a look at Tux Paint. Much like KidPix, open source, platform independent, and free!!! www.tuxpaint.org I like Keyboarding Practice at http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing/ and the typing component to ABCY.com for younger students. For a drawing program that's a free download - I use TuxPaint. It's similar to KidPix but takes some getting used to. We use online resources for teaching typing because of budget restraints. Our main site is: [ http://www.davis.k12.ut.us/cjh/appliedtech/Business/Keyboarding/Index.html ]http://www.davis.k12.ut.us/cjh/appliedtech/Business/Keyboarding/Index.html [ http://www.davis.k12.ut.us/cjh/appliedtech/Business/Keyboarding/Index.html ]http://www.davis.k12.ut.us/cjh/appliedtech/Business/Keyboarding/Index.htmlWe like this best because it's set apart in lessons, but it's basic typing practice. We use www.freetypinggame.net. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
