To be quite honest, I'm still not sure that I want to "share" this book with
the CML patrons yet--- that's only because this compilation of articles from
past issues of *School Library Media Activities
Monthly<http://www.schoollibrarymonthly.com/>
* (now known as *School Library Monthly*) contains ALL of my favorite
articles that I've bookmarked, tagged, highlighted, copied for students, and
shared with other librarians----- as well as a few articles that I know
I've missed (probably because I failed to renew my subscription on time!!)

Divided into eleven (11) chapters, this book includes some of the *best *of
SLMAM on topics such as:

   - Chapter 1: 21st Century Learning Standards
   - Chapter 2: Meet the 21st Century Learners
   - Chapter 3: Envisioning a Vibrant Library Media Program
   - Chapter 4: The 21st Century School Library Media Specialist
   - Chapter 5: Reading
   - Chapter 6: Inquiry
   - Chapter 7: Assessment
   - Chapter 8: Collaboration
   - Chapter 9: Building a Toolkit of Instructional Strategies
   - Chapter 10: Elementary Lesson Plans
   - Chapter 11: Secondary Lesson Plans

From author / librarians such as Violet Harada, Allison Zmuda, Gail
Dickinson, Marjorie L. Pappas, Deborah Levitov, Annette Lamb, Larry Johnson,
Carl A. Harvey, and, of course, Kristin Fontichiaro, this book pulls
together some of the best resources to use in the 21st Century School
Library. In addition to the wonderful chapter resources provided, the book
also includes a *Reference* *Section* of additional content, as well
as a *Recommended
Reading* list of online resources, books, and journal articles with a short
synopsis of the item available for more information. Finally, Kristin
provides a list of *Recommended Blogs for School Library Media
Specialists*and a list of
*Recommended Professional Journals* to help school librarians continue to
connect and learn about 21st century skills, literacy, learning, and school
libraries.

I have this one on my desk at the moment ---and it probably won't be
available for circulation any time soon because I have to check-out some of
the resource lists and read those "missed articles" before I can make it
available to others (it's a small perk for being the library director, but
it works!) However, if you're searching for a sample of *School Library
Media Activities Monthly* and you want to have a ready-reference available
to help you address 21st century learning, this is an important professional
reference tool that you'll refer to often--- I guarantee it!

"It is more than ironic that school districts are willing to spend
hundreds of thousands of dollars on reading programs and staff
development which have had limited success in boosting test scores,
but are unwilling to invest in school library programs that show direct
correlations to student success."
