Hi Everyone,
This is my second year at my K-5, two building position. Last year I created a
scope and sequence for my grade levels , but looking over it now there was really
no real solid themes, since they only get a lesson every other week (there is an
aide reading and running check out when I am in the other building) everything is a
bit choppy, so I thought of making my units more themed, and do one per marking
period. My Marking Period is half what everyone else's is because I am split
between the two places, and my aide can't do instruction. I always try to do TOO
may things, so I am thinking if I structure things life would be MUCH easier.

For Example

I charted out my 5th grade

First Marking Period: Fiction (genres, book reviews, reading fiction strategies and
such)

Second marking Period: Reference Skills (Print and Online) leading into Databases

Third Marking Period: Research Project, Databases

4th Marking Period: Media Literacy

very simplified but it makes sense to me to break things up. I also think I will be
doing grades for the first time next year so I want to have my lessons more unit
based, so I can do assessments.

Does anyone do something similar, and would be willing to share how they break up
the content they cover? I want to see if I am missing anything, or if I can teach
the skills I already do in a new way.

I am thinking Reading Across the World as an overall theme for first grade, with
stories and songs each month from a different Country.

Now I am babbling more, haha, sorry. If you have Themes would you please reply to
me offlist. I can share a hit after if anyone wants.
