In my opinion, they are liberal. May I suggest a magazine that I thoroughly enjoy that is quite neutral in that it offers many points of view on single issues. It is called The Week. I think your students would enjoy the shorter, more timely articles. You can check it out at www.theweek.com Chris Hales, M. Ed. Media Specialist Andersen Junior High School Chandler, AZ 85234 (480) 883-5301 fax (480) 883-5320 hales.chris@chandler.k12.az.us Please visit our school website http://ww2.chandler.k12.az.us/andersen-jr-high/index.html The books are here, where are you? I am currently reading The Wednesday Wars by Gary Schmidt >>> Carrie Fox Fox <foxc@SPARKSD.ORG> 4/9/2010 4:46 AM >>> Recently I have had two different employees of my district approach me about my magazine purchases, asking why I only purchase "liberal" magazines and no "conservative" magazines. The librarian before me subscribed to "The National Review", "The Weekly Standard" and "The American Spectator". I cut these from my budget because 1.) The students never picked one up. 2.) Our students have access to databases that include these periodicals (money issue). I DO currently subscribe to "Time" and "Newsweek", which have been described to me as "liberal". Am I totally clueless here? Are "Time" and "Newsweek" really that liberal that I should look to balance my magazine collection with conservative magazine titles? Please respond to me off list. I don't want this to turn into a political debate. I just want to get a feel for how others out there handle balancing political views in their High School collection. Thanks so much and have a great weekend!
