On the 14th of April, 1912, Titanic struck an iceberg on her maiden voyage and
quickly sank. Many people were lost due to insufficient lifeboats. On the same
day, decades earlier, President Lincoln was assassinated while watching a play at
Ford's Theater.

Marie and Pierre Curie first isolated radioactive radium in their Paris lab on the
20th of April, 1912. Four years later, on the 24th of April, Ernest Shackleton
realized his ship - the Endurance - was so badly stuck in ice that he had to take
other measures to protect his crew.

A new mini-series about World War II - "The Pacific" - features three lead
characters and various battle scenes. The National Archives, Library of Congress
and Department of Defense have historical footage and other resources about the
actual people and the battles they fought.

Videos for these topics, and many other April commemorations, are provided together
with primary sources.
