For those who are watching and "waiting for the next shoe to drop"---
Oklahoma's HB 3029 has been moved again and again, so now it's on the
Senate's agenda today.

Several school librarians have forwarded emails from their state
representatives and their responses to the bill. Despite the protest among
school librarians, parents, and other concerned individuals, it appears that
HB 3029 was a "done deal" long before now. In fact, news reports show that
some school superintendents have already made the decision to cut their
school librarian positions for next year---which would mean that they would
be in violation of the state's mandate that requires each district to have a
certified school librarian on staff.

How could the administration make that decision without fearing the penalty
of being fined for not complying with the state mandate, unless they already
knew that this was going to be approved? Check out my blog for more
information on this topic.

"It is more than ironic that school districts are willing to spend
hundreds of thousands of dollars on reading programs and staff
development which have had limited success in boosting test scores,
but are unwilling to invest in school library programs that show direct
correlations to student success."
