Well this week has been a sad week in my county in Georgia. We had a RIF this
week and have lost from what I am hearing about 96 jobs. We had two high schools
which had two media specialists and everyone else had one. We got word this week
that the two of us who are second media specialists would be transferred to
elementary schools which have media specialists retiring. We are very relieved that
we at least have jobs, but sad that what we have worked to achieve may be lost. We
have over 1800 students at my school and it will be very challenging for the other
media specialist to offer the services that we were able to offer.
I've been reading from many of you the last couple of years how you have been
cut in your counties and states and knew it was coming to us eventually. Just
very sad that it has taken place. They hope that things will rebound and be able
to rehire a second media specialist again, but I am doubtful.
So I will be making the transition from high school to elementary and will
need LOTS of help from you guys. Please feel free to send me ANYTHING you think
would help me or contact me offline.
