Hello all, and good morning or evening, Stephen Gammell worte and or illustrated a book - more words than pictures - that I read in the early 90's to classes in elem school llibrary. Was about a little boy whose birthday was Christmas Day so his Grandfather - maybe great uncle - but much older person - designed a half birhday for the child when the 2 of them celebrated the child's birth. The older person told the child wonderful stories that involved foreign legion like adventures without the violence and with lots of camels (great description of the smell of camels!!!). does anyone recognize this book? It is a truly lovely read aloud and I cannot remember the name nor locate anything that sounds like it on AMazon. Is there another source for older books I could check? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!
