A few weeks ago I asked for suggestions for read alongs for The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau Banks. The guys just weren't into it. The overwhelming suggestion was Looking for Alaska. However, having read that book I couldn't see it being used in this teacher's classroom due to some of the content. (I love the book and every student who has checked it out on my recommendation has loved it, but I wouldn't be comfortable making it assigned reading.) I'm happy to report that I have found a titles I think will be great with Frankie - Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie. It fits all my requirements - male protagonist, issues with fitting in and being true to yourself and let's not forget the great wordplay (like Tom Swifties) which was also something Frankie used. I really loved this book and as I was reading realized there were endless tie-ins for and english class. Alison Paulette This email may contain confidential material.
