The question was: What do I do with a set of novels and their accompanying audio book? The overwhelming response was to catalog these as a kit and the storage solutions varied. "I catalog them like the book, and then add a note that it includes 5 copies of the book and a CD (or whatever). The call number is KIT and first three of authors last name." "I catalogued items like that as mixed media (print & audio) and I shelved them with teaching kits in the Professional Library (teacher materials). I either used media bags or small plastic containers if I felt the media bags couldn't handle the weight." "Our class sets are stored in a different room (leveled library), and the audio books are checked out through the library." Several librarians recommended using hanging media bags for smaller sets: http://www.highsmith.com/search/hanging%20bag/Monaco-Heavy-duty-HangUp-B ag-c _23408883/ http://www.elizabethrichards.com.au/products.php?product=Hang-Up-Bags&th eme=yellowclr The solution I'm most likely to use for these heavier sets was recommended by several librarians (and is something I wouldn't have considered!): Use see-through or clear plastic shoe boxes such as those you can get from Target, Wal-Mart, etc. I like this idea the best because then you can see the items inside. If I had to use opaque boxes, I'd probably do a color printout of an image of the book cover to help with identification. If I wanted to get psychotic, I'd use different color boxes (or labels) for different grade levels, reading levels, genres, lesson units, or whatever fit the best. Thanks for all the great input! Now I know what I'm going to do! Kay Barrington, MLS, MEd. CMS Librarian Collins Middle School 3651 Santos Drive Ft.
