I agree completely. The junior high crowd can be tough, but he was great! Chris Hales, M. Ed. Media Specialist Andersen Junior High School Chandler, AZ 85234 (480) 883-5301 fax (480) 883-5320 hales.chris@chandler.k12.az.us Please visit our school website http://ww2.chandler.k12.az.us/andersen-jr-high/index.html The books are here, where are you? I am currently reading The Wednesday Wars by Gary Schmidt >>> Lori Belair <lbelair@ROCHESTER.RR.COM> 4/22/2010 5:49 AM >>> If anyone is looking for a sure thing, Brod Bagert is the way to go! We've had very well known authors here for the last 13 years and yet as you all know, sometimes even though they are great authors, doesn't mean they're going to be great presenters. Brod is both! He had many students and staff crying because they were laughing so hard. He is so much FUN! They're still talking about how he was the best author we've ever had. He gave us 3 performances. Two at my K-3 school and one at my 4-6 school and he modified them to meet the level he was presenting. We didn't choose to have a student/staff workshop because of the time factor and having to travel to the next school, set up and autographing. He'll also do a night performance. My favorite part of his presentation was that he had everyone engaged and participating. Teachers liked his messages about the writing process of editing and also about having the courage to following your dreams. On top of all that, Brod is very easy to host. He'll pretty much go with any schedule you've prearranged...autographing even after he's left. He's definitely not a diva, which I really appreciated. I think he's about $1500 for 4 presentations plus travel expenses. Check out his website for more specific details. I wish that other schools in our BOCES had scheduled him so that we could have shared the travel expenses, but he was worth every penny. If you would like to see a photoshow of his visit or if you would like to see a photoshow of the language arts acitivities we did with Brod's poetry, check out my website at the address below. I had students at both my schools totally immersed in Brod's poetry. We then had everyone record one his poems on my website. For my K-1s, I had them record one his poems as a class. My gr. 2-3 students recorded them in groups of four or five students. My gr. 4-6 students recorded them individually. My K-3 students made many adapted Brod Bagert poems as well as illustrate them.
