Thank you so much to those who replied about hosting Brandon Mull for an author
visit. He sounds as if he would be a fantastic person to come to Alaska to meet
our students. My next request is for some creative ideas. In order to get a state
grant, you need a special focus or hook to include as many different communities as
possible. We can't just ask to have an author visit.....that would just be too
easy:) Anyway the public librarian and I have been brainstorming ideas. One was
to do something about reading a "Sensational Series"; we all know that kids get
hooked on series and want more from the author. Another idea was the "One Book"
concept. Unsure if we could use a Fablehaven book for this especially since number
one was a Battle of Books selection this last year. I don't know The Candy Shop War
well enough to know its appeal to upper elementary and middle school. Also, is it
really a book that would fit the "One Book" concept.

Anyway, what I'm asking is for creative suggestions of angles you have taken when
writing these types of grants. I know at least one person will have some awesome
idea that will work for our state.

Many, many thanks again to all who replied and for those who are willing to share.
