The following message came over Georgiamedia from Betsy Razza but as I send
it on I want to add a couple of things. Membership in your state
professional organization is imperative in these times of drastic budget
cuts. By joining GLMA you are helping to keep your job (and your media
materials funding) by supporting our lobbying and legislative efforts. By
attending Summer Institute you are learning a new skill and networking with
your colleagues from all over the state so that we, as a profession, remain
relevant to our stakeholders in the efforts to boost student achievement.
$30 for membership is a bargain when you consider the benefits. Join today
and join us at this year's Summer Institute (and for new members and their
sponsor the 2-day conference could be FREE)!

Posted on behalf of President-Elect Betsy Razza:

*Join GLMA (postmarked) by April 30 and You Could Win free registration to
the Summer Institute!
GLMA Summer Institute at Callaway Garden
June 18 and 19, 2010*

If each current GLMA member reached out and recruited a new GLMA member our
ranks would double. The reward? Each new member application containing the
name of the recruiting member will go into a box from which one lucky
applicant will be picked for FREE Summer Institute Registration for both the
new member and the current member.
Increasing our numbers ensures continued funding for our lobbyists and
programs like the Summer Institute. Why is this important?

   - · Because our lobbyists work tirelessly to keep library media centers
in the forefront of public education funding decisions.
   - · Because our members learn new skills from each other through
GLMA-sponsored professional development programs and conferences.
   - · Because while one voice can be powerful, many voices speaking
   together can change history.

Regular membership is just $30 ($15 for retired professionals and $12.50 for
students working toward certification). So, current GLMA members, I
challenge you – Each One, Reach One. If you are not yet a member, contact
our Executive Office for a member nearby and ask if they want to be your
“sponsoring member.” Sponsorship does not cost the existing member anything
- just encourage a new member!

"It is more than ironic that school districts are willing to spend hundreds
of thousands of dollars on reading programs and staff development which
*have had limited success* in boosting test scores, but are unwilling to
invest in school library programs that show direct correlations <
http://www.lrs.org/impact.php> to student success."
