Greetings!

I have a 7th grade teacher asking for some recommendations. Our middle schoolers
are asked to read one required title and then selections from a recommended list,
and the teacher is trying to decide what that required read should be. I'd
appreciate hearing either what your rising 7ths are being asked to read, OR what
you yourself think would be a good grade-wide required read. I'll post a HIT
shortly!

Thanks in advance,

Do your local schools have certified school librarians ?

"As a former executive officer at a company that had 1,200 employees in 29
countries worldwide, I know that without adequate media literacy training, kids
will not succeed in a 21st-century workplace. ... Without a dedicated guide, they
end up, in the words of professor Henry Jenkins, as 'feral children of the Internet
raised by the Web 2.0 wolves.'" ~ Mark Moran, "Young Learners Need Librarians, Not
Just Google", Forbes magazine, March 2010,

"It is more than ironic that school districts are willing to spend hundreds of
thousands of dollars on reading programs and staff development which *have had
limited success* in boosting test scores, but are unwilling to invest in school
library programs that show direct correlations to student success." ~ Douglas
Achterman, 2008 Study of California School Libraries http://www.lrs.org/impact.php
