I have no objection to graphic novels. In fact, there are many that I like a lot! But I just read that Farrar, Straus & Giroux have commissioned a graphic artist to create a graphic novel of *A Wrinkle in Time. *I know I'm probably going to stir up a hornet's nest with this comment, but I just have to say... Create great original graphic novels, and leave the great novels alone. These books are stellar and endure largely because of the language that the author chose so carefully. You lose that in a graphic novel. I paraphrase from Jean Little's marvelous comment on abridged books in *Hey World! Here I Am... *"People who read [graphic novels] are like people who look at a map and think they've been on vacation." Terri L.
