My original question was about US statues devoted to fictional characters. Henry Sweets, the curator of the Mark Twain Museum in Hannibal, MO. made the comment he had heard the statue of Tom and Huck on Cardiff Hill in Hannibal was one of the five oldest U.S. statues devoted to fictional characters. I received some great leads and answers to my questions. Thank you, again to all that responded. Here are the results: 1912: Peter Pan, Kensington Gardens, London, England. 1913: Little Mermaid in harbor, Denmark 1926: Tom and Huck, Hannibal, MO. 1937: Popeye Crystal City, Tx. 1937: Paul Bunyan Minnesota 1938: Wynken, Blynken, and Nod Wellsboro, Pa. 1939: Babe Minnesota 1955: Mickey Mouse, Disneyland, Anaheim, Ca. 1957: Dulcinea, Lan Mancha, Toboso, Spain 1959: Alice in Wonderland, Central Park, NYC, NY. 1987: McClusky's Ducklings, Boston Commons Park, Boston, Ma. 1992; Winnie the Pooh, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada If there are older statues, I would like to know about them. Mr. Sweets would like to verify the ages of the 5 oldest statues devoted to fictional characters in the United States. And I want to prove that Librarians are the ones that can get him that verification! Beth Beth G.
