I received more requests for information than I received suggestions.  Kagan is a 
method of teaching, applicable to any content area, that uses fairly simple 
"structures" to increase the percentage of students actively engaged in learning.

Thanks to the one person who responded to my request for information:


I think that conversation chips are a Kagan strategy and I use them for group and 
table discussions.  When the students are asked to discuss a topic, I hand out 
chips (food, poker, etc) to each student (usually 4) and a talking cup.  You can 
only contribute to the conversation when you put your talking chip in the cup.  
This helps curtail the dominators of conversation.  If it is food, then they eat 
their Skittle after they speak.
