We purchased several Sony HandyCam DCR-DVD650/850s for our district with the hopes of using it to create MovieMaker projects. However, after installing and reinstalling the software, everytime I try to import the movie from the desktop, MovieMaker tells me that the necessary codec is missing. The file from the HandyCam is a .mpg file. It would seem to me to work fine, and in the supplied PMB software, I can view the movie. However, I am unable to even open it in Windows Media Player or QuickTime. Has anyone else run into this situation or have suggestions on how to fix it? Our Tech department is working on it, but I haven't heard anything yet. One last bit of info: Sony installed "DirectX Runtime" onto the computer. Our Tech department usually blocks anything that has DirectX in it because of "security concerns". Could this be the culprit? Thanks for your help! Thomas M.
